Acne scar treatment in Gurgaon

Medically reviewed by Dr Jaspreet Gulati, MD (Dermatology), Founder, Cult Aesthetics Dermatology · Last reviewed: October 2026

Short answer: Acne scar treatment depends on scar type, skin type, active acne status and recovery tolerance. A dermatologist consultation helps choose suitable options such as subcision, microneedling, MNRF, laser or peel-based plans.

  • May be considered for: Textural acne scars, post-acne marks and uneven skin texture
  • Assessment: Scar type and skin type guide the plan
  • Doctor supervision: Assessment and treatment planning by Dr. Jaspreet Gulati MD
  • Location: Sector 46, Gurugram
  • Plan: Personalised after consultation
  • Results: Results and session needs vary by patient

This information is educational and does not replace an in-person dermatologist consultation. Suitability, safety, downtime, cost, number of sessions and results vary by patient.

Clinical note: Acne scar treatment suitability and results can vary depending on scar type, scar depth, skin type, pigmentation pattern, sensitivity, acne activity, medical history, and treatment consistency. A dermatologist-led consultation helps decide whether acne scar treatment is appropriate and whether combination treatments may be needed.

Acne Marks vs Acne Scars

Acne marks are usually colour changes such as brown or red marks after acne. Acne scars are texture changes such as pits, depressions, or an uneven skin surface.

Treatment planning differs for marks and scars. Active acne may need to be controlled before more intensive scar-focused procedures are considered.

Acne Scar Treatment FAQs

What is acne scar treatment?

Acne scar treatment is planned after assessing scar type, depth, active acne, skin type, pigmentation risk, and recovery tolerance. Options may include subcision, microneedling, MNRF, fractional laser, peels, TCA CROSS, or combination care when suitable.

Are acne scars and acne marks the same?

No. Acne marks are usually colour changes such as brown or red marks after acne. Acne scars are texture changes such as pits, depressions, or uneven skin surface. Treatment planning differs for marks and scars.

Can acne scars improve with treatment?

Acne scar treatment may help improve the appearance of scars, but results vary depending on scar type, scar depth, skin type, treatment method, sessions, and aftercare. A consultation helps set realistic expectations.

Which treatments may be considered for acne scars?

A dermatologist may discuss subcision, microneedling, MNRF, fractional laser, TCA CROSS, chemical peels, skincare, or combination plans depending on scar type, active acne status, skin sensitivity, and medical history.

How many sessions may be needed?

Session needs vary. Many acne scar plans require multiple sessions and review visits, but the number depends on scar type, severity, selected procedure, downtime tolerance, and skin response.

Is there downtime after acne scar treatment?

How Acne Scar Treatment Works at Our Sector 46 Clinic

Acne scar treatment at Cult Aesthetics Dermatology starts with identifying your scar type, because pitted, rolling and raised scars respond to different procedures. Dr Jaspreet Gulati, MD (Dermatology), checks whether acne is still active, assesses scar depth and pigmentation risk for your skin type, and then suggests a single procedure or a combination, such as subcision, TCA CROSS, MNRF or fractional laser, over several sessions. Scars can often be made less noticeable, but they rarely disappear completely, and results vary from person to person. The consultation is free.

Brown or red marks are usually treated differently from true scars. If you mainly have flat marks, see the chemical peel for acne marks guide. For pigmentation not linked to acne, see our pigmentation and melasma treatment page.

Types of Acne Scars

Ice-pick scars

Narrow, deep pits. They are often treated with TCA CROSS, a focused acid application inside each scar, sometimes combined with resurfacing.

Boxcar scars

Wider depressions with sharper edges. They are often considered for MNRF, fractional laser or other resurfacing.

Rolling scars

Soft, wave-like dips caused by bands under the skin. Subcision releases these bands and is often combined with needling or resurfacing.

Raised (hypertrophic) scars

Firm, raised scars, more common on the jaw, chest and back. They are assessed and planned separately.

Acne Scar Treatment Options We May Discuss

OptionWhat it is
SubcisionA fine needle releases the bands under the skin that pull rolling scars down
TCA CROSSA focused acid application for narrow ice-pick scars
MNRF (microneedling with radiofrequency)Fine needles deliver heat energy into the skin to support remodelling
Fractional laserA laser treats tiny columns of skin to resurface texture
MicroneedlingFine needles create controlled micro-injuries to support skin remodelling
Chemical peelsSurface resurfacing for texture and marks; see chemical peel treatment
PRP / GFC with needlingYour own blood-derived growth factors used alongside needling; see GFC for the face
Q-switch Nd:YAG laserMay be considered for the dark marks that often sit alongside scars

Not every option suits every skin type. Indian skin can be more prone to dark marks after procedures, so settings and the plan are set after assessment.

Who May Be Suitable, and When to Wait

Usually considered when

  • acne has been controlled for a period the doctor considers suitable
  • scars are stable, not new
  • you can attend multiple sessions and follow aftercare

We may suggest waiting or another route if

  • acne is still active (we treat it first; see acne treatment)
  • you are pregnant
  • you are on, or recently stopped, certain acne medicines such as isotretinoin; the doctor advises on timing
  • you have an active skin infection, or a history of poor healing or keloids

What to Expect

  1. Consultation and scar mapping: scar types, depth, skin type, acne activity and photos for your records.
  2. Your written plan: the procedures, number of sessions (often several, spaced weeks apart), expected downtime and total cost before you start.
  3. Treatment sessions: a numbing cream may be used. Comfort varies by procedure.
  4. Review visits: progress is checked at intervals and the plan is adjusted if needed.

Downtime and aftercare

Downtime depends on the procedure. Redness, swelling, peeling, dryness or sensitivity for a few days is common after MNRF, fractional laser or needling, and bruising can follow subcision. Sun protection and the aftercare you are given matter for results and to reduce pigmentation risk. Contact the clinic if you notice anything unexpected.

Cost of acne scar treatment in Gurgaon

The cost depends on scar type, the procedures chosen and the number of sessions. It is confirmed after assessment, and you get the total before starting. The acne scar consultation is free.

More Questions About Acne Scars

Can acne scars be removed completely?

Usually not completely. Treatment aims to make scars less noticeable, and how much they improve varies with scar type, depth, skin type and the number of sessions.

Is acne scar treatment suitable for Indian skin?

Yes, it can be, with planning. Indian skin can be more prone to dark marks after procedures, so settings, procedure choice and aftercare are adjusted after assessment.

Should I treat active acne before acne scars?

Usually yes. Active acne is generally controlled first so new marks and scars do not keep forming during scar treatment.
